Project Overview

Vision:

A cooperative of  family operated  micro businesses that provide financial independence for the owner operators.

Abd is like many young adults of his age.  He finished school with average grades.  His family is middle income for his country which means that with the current economic climate they can only afford the basic necessities of life.  Occasionally he's able to find some work.  Abd lives at home with his two brothers.  By combining their incomes, they and their father are able to provide a relatively steady income for Mother and the sisters.

Although Abd is 25, it looks like it will be many years before he can afford to get married.  Until now any extra money in the family has gone toward getting the brothers and sisters all through high school.  College or university studies are well beyond their financial range.  Even so, the little they are able to save is not much compared to the cost of starting a new family.  Maybe in ten years ...   Or maybe just never.

Abd had a chance to open a small sandwich stand.  He was not worried by the long hours; 6 am to 9 pm.  And he would have been happy with the 100 to 150 dollars a month he could make for his efforts.  But there were two major obstacles: It would have cost him almost 2000 dollars for the equipment and supplies.  And he would have to figure out how to make it work on his own.  The risk was high.  He could probably have persuaded relatives to put up most of the money.  Except, what if ...   If it didn't work out, how would he ever pay them back?

About 15% of the people of Abd's country live a very different life.  For them, attending the college or university of their choice is the norm.  And after graduation, jobs are relatively easy to find through well connected relatives.  Most will be married by the age of 26.  And they would never have to work 6 am to 9 pm.  Many of them will make about 100 dollars every working day.

Abd wonders if there is any hope, any reason to believe that tomorrow will be better.

MEABT and Mosaic Developments together with YOU can make Abd's tomorrow MUCH better.

Strategy:

Farm fish a high quality food supply
by franchise a package including the plan, the training, and startup
in less than 100 sq meters  fits anywhere
using recycled water appropriate for dry climates
and locally available equipment reduces expense and learning curve
to produce $500 to $1000 (US) monthly net income. financial independence

One day Abd met an MEABT representative and they talked about business.  It was clear that Abd was ready, willing and able to work to provide for his family.  Abd demonstrated the values that make an ethical business person successful in his work, his community, and his family.  So Abd was introduced to the Fish Farming Franchise concept.

During the three months of training and apprenticeship, Abd grew in confidence.  And the supervisors grew in their confidence in Abd too.  With guidance, he was able to but together the details of his own plan, arrange his contribution to the capital investment required, and help build his own fish farm.

Abd began to plan for the day he would start his own family.  His family and relatives watched with interest as they saw the changes in Abd that were happening because of the values and leadership skills he was learning.  But best of all,  Abd had a reason to believe that tomorrow would be better.

About a year after that first meeting with the MEABT representative, Abd sold his first fish.  He had raised them himself.  He was proud of his hard work and satisfied deep down inside.  From that point on, his income was  more than he could have made at the sandwich stand.  In a few months he would be finished buying the rest of the investment in his fish farm. Then he would be a full owner operator licensed under the cooperative and his income would double or triple again.

Abd's tomorrow is MUCH better because of YOUR contribution.
